Wegovy (semaglutide)

Wegvoy (the generic name is semaglutide) is a medication that works by mimicking the effects of a peptide called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GPL-1) in the body. GPL-1 is naturally produced in the intestines and helps to regulate blood sugar levels, insulin and appetite.

This new class of anti-obesity medications is recommended for long-term weight loss and maintenance goals to help you lose weight and get off of the weight roller coaster once and for all.

When dosed adequately, a once-a-week self-administered injection is all it takes to ward off cravings, decrease portion sizes, and stop the food dialogue going on in your head. You may even notice a slight aversion to foods we associate with weight gain: fatty, greasy or sweet foods. They simply won't seem appealing anymore.

Sound amazing? It is! But will all those cravings and your appetite come back when you stop taking it? Yep, unless you are willing to commit to making new dietary habits and lifestyle changes that support your weight maintenance while taking the medication. At Sound Medical Weight Loss our providers are experts at helping you design a sustainable diet and lifestyle for long-term weight maintenance. Wegovy/semaglutide is not a miracle cure for obesity, but it is a powerful tool to support your healthy weight goals.
